Hi all,

It has been a flash since the last time i post a msg. For many of us, it was the start of our long long long holiday then. Before u realise it, school is going to start in a few days time.

howz holiday?

Throughout the two months holiday, i was always back in school for Chinese Orchestra practices and camp, to conduct remedial lessons, and to settle mountain of admin and school-closing matters.

At the same time, i was very very very tied down by the design and renovation of my new house. And of course, the preparation for my Chinese wedding customary ceremony and wedding banquet. Luckily i had a whole holiday to do these. But it also means that i did not have a holiday!

i hope many can’t wait for the sch to start, i hope... haha. but i also know that there are many having school-reopening-blues like me? We just have to take it easy, ya?

i was in phuket from 23/12 to 28/12 for my honeymoon. What an experience! My wife and I were scheduled to return s'pore on 26/12 but the airport was closed due to the tidal wave. So our "holiday" was extended!

On 26/12, 9+ in the morning, we had our breakfast and intended to check out the resort after the last sunbathing by the beach. After a hearty breakfast in the cafeteria by the beach, we were proceeding back to our room at 5th floor to pack up before we heard an impact from the cafeteria. Almost immediately, many resort staff were running in our direction, and towards a higher ground.

We ran together with them not knowing what had happened. Just "monkey see, monkey do", u know. I thought a lion or tiger was let loose, or worst, terrorist attack! As it is, our resort was attacked by the Tsunami!

We did not see the wave, but did see the aftermath of the destruction. It was powerful, very powerful, i tell u, but not as destructive as in some other places, as what you have watched in TV.

Still, things would have been very different if not for all the lucks we had. Thinking back, we were actually running for our life when the Tsunami attacked. The wave actually reached the location where we started to run.

And any earlier or later in our timing of our breakfast, we could have been swept away, either when we were having breakfast, or when we were sunbathing by the beach. The cafeteria was in a ruin. The swimming pool became a pool of muddy seawater. Many beach tables and chairs were swept all over the places.

Not to mention that we were snorkelling near Phi-Phi Island the previous day, and having a sumptuous dinner and doing last minute shopping in Patong Beach the night before. These were among the worst hit places with high death toll and injuries in Thailand.

We were lucky to escape unscathed, just constant fear for a second tidal wave.

YET, IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO DIFFERENT.

Life is so vulnerable and unpredictable.

Well, just a brief account of my holidays, and a rare experience of the catastrophe.

It will be a new start in 2005. There will be a lot of challenges and difficult times, but count ourselves lucky to be breathing every morning when we wake up, and treasure what we have.
